Yayoi Infinity

Happy Sunday My Beauties,

I hope you've had a wonderful weekend. I wanted to share with you this Instagram I took from the Yayoi Kusama show at the David Zwirner gallery this past week. The mirrored infinity room, surrounded by water and a zillion lights, took my breath away - so much so that I had to experience it twice. Alone with myself, and somehow not alone at all; it made me think about life in New York.

You can walk hand in hand with a boyfriend, or link arms with your best friends, but somehow this city reminds you everyday that here you are on your own with everyone. New York is only earned and never given. As I prepare for the next challenge of immigration I know that the battle can only be fought by the individual - me. I'm both humbled and grateful, exhausted and recharged, challenged and inspired. I know that I'm exactly where I need to be.

Wishing you an inspired week ahead.

Much love,

Illustrations for Marie Claire Magazine

Happy Wednesday My Loves,

I'm so excited to be back on the blog again sharing with you another fantastic illustration project I worked on. Marie Claire Magazine approached me to illustrate a series of shoe designs and pattern for a stylish, little giftable, notebook they were producing. It was one of those 'pinch-me' moments where I realized I was actually living my dream. When I came to New York to pursue my Fashion Illustration AAS at the Fashion Institute of Technology back in 2009, I told our Chair of Illustration that all I really wanted to do was illustrate shoes...and finally I was.

In the end, my illustrations were used on the Marie Claire Shoes First notebook, tote, and invitation for their event with Saks Fifth Avenue. Fortunately I was able to attend the event and snagged some awesome instagram shots holding all my illustrated swag. It didn't take long to see my tote bag hitting the streets either!! I happened to catch a very chic New Yorker toting her tote on the 1 train to work and perhaps that was the greatest moment of all. I've always wanted to see people living with my illustrations in a functional, multipurpose way, and I finally have.

Cheers to pursuing your dreams and making them happen in the baddest city of all: NYC!!

Much love,
Meag xx

SS14 NYFW Photo Diary

Hello Darlings,

I'm finally back from an absolute whirlwind Summer and start to Fall. For those of you who follow my Instagram and Facebook you were absolutely apart of the journey with me and I'm incredibly grateful for that. I did not formerly announce it on the blog but in addition to illustrating with designer Naomi Spindel, I was also selected by renowned illustrator Alvaro and Would You Rock This to cover the Ruffian SS14 show at New York Fashion week this past Sept 7th.

As expected I jumped at the opportunity, and had the time of my life sketching voraciously from the runway, and inside the Lincoln Center tents. Having captured much of the action via Instagram, my favorite Aussie Jordana Ripp of Perth Style put together this amazing photo collage of my experience, and I just had to share it with you all here. Thank you Jordana for this most incredible memento. I can't wait to post the final illustrations from the Ruffian show here shortly.

Much love,

C18's Labor Day Haute List

Happy Labor Day Weekend My Lovelies!!

I hope you have some spectacular plans in the works for this holiday. I'm back in Toronto for one of my dearest friend's wedding tomorrow (love you Miss Jill Kennedy) and I'm beyond thrilled to share with you my first ever C18 Girl illustration for my company Collection 18. Check out C18's Labor Day Haute List for five fabulous spots to hit up this long weekend:

1. Check out MoMA P.S.1’s Party Wall this weekend before it closes – a temporary urban landscape on view throughout the Summer. The giant steel frame contains water which projects to a fountain below. No place could be chiller to end your Summer in NYC.

2. Visit James Turrell’s light spectacular at the Guggenheim for an experience of perception, light, color, and space. It’s Turrell’s first exhibition in a New York museum since 1980. After walking the dramatically transformed Guggenheim, pop over to Central Park for a late Summer stroll.

3. Head to 10 Over 10 Tribeca for a bit of manicure/pedicure indulgence. Nothing feels better than letting your fingers and toes shine during these last few days of saucy Summer heat. On your way home walk up West Broadway for some SOHO gallery hopping and Summer sale shopping!!

4. Road-trip it to Sturbridge, Massachusetts this weekend for the incredible Vintage Fashion and Textile Show. Scoop up tapestries, costumes, estate jewelry, hats, shoes, and old fashioned magazines for old makes new inspiration at the largest show of its kind.

5. Hop over to Brooklyn Bridge Park to ride the exquisite 1920’s Jane’s Carousel in Dumbo. Overlook the most spectacular view of the East River between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge and host your own version of a Harper’s Bazaar Mila Kunis photo shoot.

Much love,

Summer Seven with Alyssa Surrett

Hello Again Lovelies!!

I'm so beyond excited to finally be showcasing my blog collaboration with my friend, the fabulous Alyssa Surrett - Marie Claire's Executive Assistant to the Publisher, major style blogger, and super accessory aficionado. Alyssa and I became instant friends after meeting at a Marie Claire x Anne Taylor Loft event back in February. We both showed up wearing the same dip-dyed fox fur scarf, purchased from a store Sucre in our mutual neighborhood of the West Village. Clearly it was fate and here we are.

Over brunch at Sant Ambroeus one morning, we decided on a blog collaboration that involved her curating her must have Summer 2013 accessories and me illustrating them...et voila!! I present to you Alisted and Travel Write Draw's Summer Seven illustrated must have accessories. Starting from top to bottom, left to right:

Prada Metallic Leather Flower Applique Thong Sandals
Elizabeth Cole Crystal Parrot Earrings
Dior Sauvage 2/S Sunnies
Alexander McQueen Small Heroine Laser-Cut Calf Hair Satchel Bag
Jimmy Choo Preya Leather and Raffia Wedge Sandal

Whether you are spending your last few weeks of Summer working in the city, vacationing in paradise, or riding the Hampton Jitney to another weekend of bliss in the Summer Rental, make sure you do it in style with one or all of our top Summer Seven!!

READY, STEADY JET SET

Happy Saturday My Loves!!

Finally I'm back on the blog after such a long hiatus!! Needless to say, when you take 10 days off from work, you spend the next 20 trying to catch up. I had some really incredible events take place the past few weeks. I illustrated my first scarf for my company's SS14 collection, finally met the gorgeous girls over at Perth Style as well as Lubov Azria of BCBG, modeled for a creative with Lily Qian, attended one of my best friend's weddings and GOTHAM Magazine's Cover Party with my love Alyssa of A-Listed. Now I'm prepping for a quick jet set home and I couldn't be happier.

I read this amazing quote today that said "travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light". I feel like I'm living in the light right now. Can't wait to share more illustrations with you all and finally get crackin' on my Greece Postcards!!

Much love,

Hello Hello My Loves,

How have you all been?!! I have finally returned from my Greek Island hopping extravaganza and I can't begin to tell you how much I fell in love with that country!! From Athens, to Mykonos, Paros, and Santorini, I experienced all things white & blue. Those who follow me with Instagram came right along for the ride as I documented my journey from ferry to land and back again. I can't wait to share the oodles of inspiration I gathered while abroad but in the meantime I leave you with this snapshot from my first night in Mykonos. Lets just say it was a night to remember. Stay tuned for postcards, trend posts, and illustrations galore.

Illustrated Packing List: Greek Island Hopping

Hello, Hello, Hello My Loves!!

I'm so excited to be back on TWD to reveal my Greek Island packing essentials!! This Friday May 24th I will be embarking on the adventure of a lifetime, leaving all the stresses of New York City behind ahhhh. I can already feel that Mediterranean sunshine permeating my skin. That reminds me...I still need to buy SPF 100 lotion because right now I'm grossly Snow White. Anyway, it seems that this trip's packing list is all about statement accessories. Truthfully, bohemian white maxi dresses just aren't that fun to draw ;). Starting from the top left:

I fell absolutely in love with this season's prints and pop color accents like chartreuse, coral, and tangerine. I'm having visions of Santorini's aqua blue waters as the backdrop to my saturated colored ensembles. The outfits make the trip don't they?! How are you all spending your Memorial Day holiday? Have any of you been to the Greek Islands? If so leave your suggestions below.

Much love,

Greek Island Hopping Getaway!!

Hello Hello My Darlings!!

I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself!! A little under three weeks from now I will be jetting off to Athens to kick-start my Greek Island Hopping Extravaganza. On the agenda is Mykonos, Paros, and breathtaking Santorini. I can't wait to take you all there with me through my blog. This will be my first time traveling to Greece and I've been told just HOW extraordinarily beautiful it is.

I searched high and low for references for this illustration and finally landed on an editorial from VOGUE Hellas. I wanted it to feel authentic and equally fashion/travel driven. I loved her headpiece as it related to Greek Mythology and the fact that she seemed to mirror my sentiments towards Greek island hopping (eager). I've been devising my packing list to illustrate here so stay tuned.

Before I sign off, I am dying to get recommendations from you all on the "must-sees" of Greece. Leave your comments and suggestions below and don't forget to include any post tips on themes, photos, postcards that you would like to see here upon my return. Thrilled to bring you Greece inspired posts galore and sink my teeth into a new country. Enjoy the beautiful weekend!!

Much love,
Meag xx

TWD Darling: Julianne Hough

Hello My Loves,

I'm so excited to reveal my third ever TWD Darling - the beautiful, sassy, ubber talented Miss Julianne Hough. A couple of days ago I posted a process photo of this illustration to my Instagram and I was so amazed by the response. Apparently my absolute girl crush on Julianne is shared by many, many others.

My reason for selecting a TWD Darling is never the same. In this case I was completely transfixed with the style evolution of a formerly bedazzled professional dancer to a complete and utter fashion maven. After collecting photo after photo of Julianne's haircut for my own chop reference, my sheer affinity for her outfit ensembles was undeniable. I...just...had...to PAINT HER!!

The deeper I dug, the more I discovered. She isn't just a wickedly dressed blonde bombshell. Dancer, actress, singer, spokesperson, AND shoe designer with e-tailer Sole Society, I'm honestly left wondering what doesn't this girl do? So apart from dreaming of hanging out with her in her closet one day, my only other wish would be that she sees this illustration and loves it. I'm on a mission to get it to her and hopefully (like Kelly Cutrone and Liz Cabral) I will!!

Who's style do you absolutely adore? Is there anyone TWD Darling worthy in your mind? Leave your answer in the comments section below and maybe they will end up illustrated here too.

Much love,
Meag xx

FACE FORWARD

I felt so inspired tonight at Would You Rock This' drawing session titled The Art of Beauty Illustration. Brandon brought two incredibly talented make-up artists on board to create three distinct trend looks for the evening. I kept thinking of the expression "put your best foot forward" which then evolved to "put your best face forward" and voila this post was born.

I was so amazed watching the girls transform from the inside out with each new stylization. It made me wonder whether something as immaterial as make-up has the power to really transform how we feel inside. My Father always says that "when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at start to change." If that is true, and I believe it is, think of all the possibilities we have to improve our lives for the better each day.

I leave you with that tiny bit of food for thought because sleep is calling and work can be unforgiving. I promise to be back on the blog very soon with some SUPER exciting announcements and collaborations. Can't wait to share!!

Much love,
Meag xx

SHORT STORY

What's in a haircut? Confidence, insecurity, a quest to be trend right, a desire for individualism, all of the above? Exactly two weeks ago I returned home to Toronto for the Easter Holiday and dared to bare...my neck...for the first time...in years. I chopped off 6 inches back in December and decided to keep going, going, going, gone, up, up, up to my chin. And frankly, I haven't looked back (or down literally speaking).

For months now I've been watching, one by one, as my favorite models (Daria Werbowy, Karlie Kloss, Jessica Stam) went for the plunge or should I say chop. I observed with envy as they made the incredibly brave move to cut the security blanket from their heads. I salivated over February's fashion week street style shots; the inimitable Miroslava Duma racing between shows with the chicest of chic bobs. Finally I decided it was my time.

Hair throughout history has persisted as a symbol of femininity from Botticelli's Birth of Venus to Brooke Shields' Blue Lagoon. Cutting it off feels, simply put, liberating. I feel like I own my beauty more by redefining what is associated with being feminine. I can't help but notice how I appeal to different men with long hair than I do with short. I might even argue that the guy who approaches me with tresses to my chin seems to appreciate a little more just how strong willed I am.

In short (no pun intended) cutting ones hair is no laughing matter; because I happen to think there is a lot more in a haircut than meets the eye. Do you agree? Have any of you cut it all off recently? What possessed you to do so? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comment section.

Much love,
Meag xx

Living In Your Truth

What does it mean to live in your truth? How do you find your truth in order to live it? So many people ask me how I came to find what I love and my only answer is my unwavering quest for the truth.

I don't know why I love fashion illustration as much as I do, I just know that it is the most fulfilling, genuine expression of myself. I know that even if nobody saw it as having any value, if no one cared to look, I would still need to paint these miraculous little glimpses into the world of fashion. Because to me, what I do, is like breathing. I couldn't live without doing it. Or at the very least, I wouldn't be contributing the best of me to the world around me (and frankly that's just as terrifying).

We can spend so much time getting caught up in the woulda/shoulda/coulda. But at the end of the day, if you are living in your truth, if you are following your heart, then you probably are exactly where you need to be right now.

If I have any regret in my life, it is the time I spent wasting second guessing myself. I've known all along what it was that I wanted to do but I worried too much about what others around me were doing too. Ultimately, fortune favors the bold, and I don't just mean monetarily. You have to be willing to take the risk, make the leap of faith, for a chance at the reward. I'm not sure I've even seen the reward of my risk yet but what I do know is that I'm grateful everyday that I'm living honestly with myself - who I want to be, who I'm meant to be.

You're probably wondering what any of this has to do with anything, maybe even specifically the look I painted for this post. Trust me, there is a connection ;) Oscar de la Renta, who happens to be one of my all time favorite designers, really took a risk this past season when he partnered with the dishonored John Galliano for his FW13 collection.

Oscar has a label with a tremendous amount of credibility. Taking Galliano under his wing, after he was very publicly ousted from Dior, could have been very damaging to his brand (fashion can be unforgiving after all). But instead of fearing the risk, he embraced an undeniable talent, and delivered one of the most evolved and breathtaking collections of his career. Living in his truth resulted in a beautifully transcendent expression of design and self.

I'm certainly not advocating taking lofty risks with your life, but more like walking away from what you know for the chance of something greater. Living an unfulfilled life to me seems like a much scarier fate.

Anyway my loves, I would be so interested to hear your thoughts on the topic of living in your truth. What does it mean to you? Wishing you an amazing week ahead.

Much love

Cher & Dionne

Happy Sunday Darlings!!

I've just returned from this week's Would You Rock This? drawing session held at my Alma Mater FIT (*sigh*). Walking through those hallways certainly brought back a floodgate of wonderful memories. We were so fortunate to be hosted by famed illustrator Steven Broadway today, who reminded us that fashion really is all about the gesture, the moment.

I've titled this post Cher & Dionne because his selected outfits felt so reminiscent of my all time favorite movie Clueless. And now I'm wishing I was back in Cali cruising through Beverly Hills. Anyways my loves, tomorrow calls for early morning market meetings so I'm off. I've been making a lot of progress behind the scenes and I can't wait to share the results with you all. Sleep tight...

Much love,

Material Girl

Good Evening Lovelies!!

Hope you've all been enjoying your weekends. I'm so elated that I had back to back drawing sessions this week (John Jay Cabuay at the Society of Illustrators Thursday night and Would You Rock This at the Ripley Grier Studios this afternoon). It feels so incredible to be drawing regularly again and today was just beyond.

Brandon Graham, of Would You Rock This, purchased these incredible props (Moet & Chandon bottles, Chanel N0 5, Coach purse etc) which elevated the experience to another level. You really had to think about the product, how to sell it, how to merchandise your own fashion illustration. The finished piece became a mini ad.

I have a few more drawings I'd like to post from today's session but right now the friends are calling and karaoke in Chinatown awaits. Jusqu'a demain.

Much love,
Meag xx

Custo Barcelona Fall 2013

Hola Babies!!

I'm hoping you had a fantastic weekend!! A few lucky New Yorkers, myself included, got to soak up a beautiful three day weekend. I caught up with friends over delicious brunches and macrobiotic meals lol and strolled around SOHO and painted and...you get the point. Anyway, as promised, here are my final illustrations from the Custo Barcelona show last Sunday. Nothing ever compares to the rush of inspiration brought on by seeing these clothes coming down the runway.

I got a little feedback from the Custo Barcelona Social Media team, who retweeted my sketches from the show, and left some smiles on my facebook post. I'm hoping they are pleased with these sketches as well. Alright loves, time for sleep.

Much love,
Meag xx

Illustrating at Custo Barcelona Fall 2013 NY Fashion Week

Hi Friends! It's me, Meagan Morrison, at #MBFW

Custo Barcelona Runway Lights Down

Custo Barcelona Illustrations Drawn Fresh from the Runway!

Custo Barcelona Final Runway Walk
Girls Sitting Pretty in the #MBFW Tents

 Good Evening Lovers!!

I made it through NYFWeekend and I'm so proud that I managed to illustrate fresh drawings from every runway show I attended. Custo Barcelona this afternoon was hot, hot, hot, though it seems style.com disagrees with me. Furs and sequins and minis and textures and layers plus a 'beauty meets beast' aesthetic was to die for. Also, sweet little bonus that they showed both men's and women's together. It made the show longer hence allowing the audience to savor the experience.

I stuck around the tents afterwards for a golden opportunity to illustrate the fashion pack. As luck would have it, I ended up sitting near the lovely Rachel and Liz of thatschic.net and lateafternoonblog.com who politely asked to photograph me while illustrating. They were so sweet and enthusiastic about my work it made me all the more excited to be drawing from the lively environment. My goal for next Fashion Week is definitely to get backstage to illustrate precious prep time.

Well babes, once again it's time for SLEEP. Tomorrow I'm slammed with back to back design meetings and I have three days to turn over my illustrations to Would You Rock This from today's show. Wish me luck.

Much love,
Meag xx

Tibi Final Walk

Hola Babes!!

I finally took the plunge today and drew from the ACTUAL runway at Tibi's FW13 show at Pier 59 this evening. I can't believe I did it!! Usually I'm too overwhelmed and elated just to be attending the show that I can't think about capturing models walking at lightening speed down the runway.

The show was very clean and minimal, mixing highlighter bright greens and blues, with black leather and graphic prints. Oh and it had a pretty jammed front row including Olivia Palermo, Hannah Bronfman, and every major blogger in town!! Tomo and I even had a moment with Katie Holmes out by the elevator (yes we stood next to her and it was fabulous).

Anyway, time for some sleep. I have another big day tomorrow at Lincoln Center!!

HUGS & KISSES,
Meag xx
