Travel Write Draw is Getting a Makeover...

Hello Friends,

I apologize for the delay in posting this past week. Truth be told, I'm working on the redesign of Travel Write Draw. A blog should grow with you, as most great things in life usually do. I'm hoping to have a layout that better reflects where I'm at right now with my art and career. I didn't want to leave any of you in the dark about TWD's impending facelift and I'm not sure whether I will make all the changes at once or ease into them. I can't wait for you to see the new direction I'm going in and to receive your much appreciated feedback. Have a wonderful weekend loves.

Tomo O.

Hello Loves,

I've just returned from this week's Would You Rock This and I'm totally in love with the theme du jour. Today's style inspiration was the incredibly demure Jackie Kennedy Onassis. For days we were preparing to draw from the model Malin until she unfortunately had to cancel hours before our meetup. Thankfully my dear friend and beautiful model Tomo came to the rescue. I joked with her that she was going to be Tomo O. and boy was she ever. The outfits were styled to perfection and I was lusting terribly over the first ensemble for my very own wardrobe.

So here she is, for one time only, the very elegant Tomo O.

Much love,

Sucker Punch

Veronika Horrocks' Commissioned Piece

Hello My Loves,

It is with great honor that I'm sharing this piece with you today. Some of you may already know that the wonderfully brilliant Veronika Horrocks of Notes to Self, commissioned me to create an original illustration to be auctioned off during the launch of her new website. Auctions are just one of the many innovative features she will be including in her new buying/selling webpage. All the proceeds from the launch auction will be lovingly donated to Cancer Research UK . I simply could not wait to start producing something from the heart, for such a special person, and such an important cause.

When it came to inspiration, Veronika really left it open to the artist. She prompted my creative thinking with a black and white photo of a tough girl screaming in a megaphone. Knowing Veronika's own work, I immediately thought of painting a strong, urban-punk, tongue-in-cheek, type of figure. Furthermore, as someone who has been affected by cancer, I wanted to literally paint courage and optimism with my own fashion flare. I just want to thank the beautiful Veronika for this amazing opportunity. It's not everyday that you get paid to paint what you want, for a cause you care so deeply for.

To check out Veronika's post describing the event click here. And for those of you who have ever wanted to own an original work by me you will finally have the opportunity to bid :)

Much love,
Meag xx

Hard Candy

Hello Darlings,

How was your weekend? I've been going through so many changes in my postgrad life, I don't even know where to begin. For one, these are the first set of gesture drawings that I've produced outside of FIT and since completing my degree. You have no idea how strange it feels to not have one of my incredible professors checking over my work, making sure the figure is just right, or that the rendering is true to me. I'm really starting to feel like I'm flying solo for the first time in two years. It's terrifying, it's exciting, but above all, it's time.

I've joined the NYC Meetup group titled Would You Rock This that is devoted to the promotion and celebration of the field of fashion illustration. People from all creative principles, including graphic and fashion design, attend alongside illustrators to draw from a fashion model. What I especially love is that they style the outfits of our model according to a theme. This past session was Lower East Side Rocker. When I finished drawing the looks, I wanted to contrast them with a sweet background for a clever juxtaposition. Hard candy felt like the perfect match.

A little bit tough, a side of sweet, the perfect treat!!

Enjoy,
Meag xx

My ELEMENTS Magazine Feature

Check out the interview here: ELEMENTS Magazine

Hello Loves,

Hope you're all having a fabulous week so far. I'm finally back in New York after a brief Canadian hiatus and I'm so excited to share this beautiful feature I did with ELEMENTS Magazine. Aggie, from the always chic Once Over Lightly, asked me many months ago if I would be interested in doing an interview with her magazine. Unfortunately it took me this long to get my answers together and boy am I glad I did. She did a truly incredible job, enlarging eight of my illustrations to great proportions. I don't think I've ever seen my work so clearly on the web. Needless to say I've taken a cue from her layout and have decided to enlarge my illustrations here from now on. Thanks again Miss Aggie for the wonderful interview!!

Lots of love,
Meag xx
