Fashion Quotes

Good Evening Friends,

Before I begin I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your overwhelming support and encouragement regarding my W Hotel show. Honestly, I was beyond touched by your comments and I feel so blessed to have connected with such incredible people across the globe. I guess I'm feeling particularly emotional tonight because it is the eve of our final submission day for the Fashion Illustration AAS show. The last four semesters have lead up to this moment. I just can't believe how quickly time passes. Moreover, I can't get over how much I've done since this September. To think I only started this blog 7 months ago just blows my mind and now I have all of you wonderful people to push me to be better.

The project I've posted here is the final piece I'm submitting for the show's consideration. Each student was assigned a fashion quote to be interpreted in a 14 X 17 illustration. I selected at random "We are shaped and fashioned by what we love" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. At first I was entirely perplexed as to how I would interpret this quote. Then it suddenly dawned on me, to have all the things I love, construct a fashion figure silhouette through their arrangement on a page. I pushed it even further by using only luxury fashion and lifestyle items, referencing Paris Vogue, style.com, specifically Prada SS11. The big debate with this piece was how to integrate the type. I'm fairly pleased with the outcome after a million trials.

So loves, this will be my last post for a while since I will be traveling until April 25th. I wish you a wonderful Easter holiday, and for those of you who are on Spring Break, enjoy!! Keep your fingers crossed for me that my work gets selected to be in the show!!

All my love,
Meag xx

Hello My Loves,

Alas I can finally reveal my very exciting news to you all!! Thank-you ever so much for your incredible patience. Trust me, it wasn't easy keeping this to myself for so long, but I just felt I had to see it before I disclosed it. On March 23rd I was informed that two of my illustrations were chosen to be exhibited in W Hotel's 'Drawing Inspiration: Ladies of the Night' fashion illustration show. Seven works were picked in total including a piece by the brilliant Steven Stipelman and four of my classmates James Skarbek, Kayla Burdon, Mara Louise Cespon, and Crystal Schoen. Better yet our originals were blown up to enormous proportions in order to be hung throughout W Hotel's Times Square living room lounge.

I can't describe just how incredibly honored I feel to have been chosen by W Hotel to be apart of this show. Moreover, there are no words to express how deeply grateful I am to my professor Karen Santry for having provided us with this opportunity. Karen not only leveraged her outstanding reputation to bring my class along to the Oscar de la Renta Fall 2011 fashion show this year, but also now this exhibition with W Hotel. For those of you who live in New York or will be visiting, the show is open to the public from now until May 3rd. Simply enter the lobby at 48th and Broadway and take the elevator up to the seventh floor. The works are extraordinary and I'm so proud to hang amongst such incredible talent.

Hope the wait was worth it. Enjoy the photos, or better yet, the actual show :)

Much love,
Meag xx

Blame It On Rio

Two years ago I purchased W Magazine's 'Madonna: Blame it on Rio' issue and immediately fell in love. What could be more desirable than a country that embraces vibrancy, passion, exoticism, and the arts? Coincidentally these past few months have brought me even closer to this magnificent place and it's traditions. For those of you who follow Travel Write Draw you will likely remember my interview with CANSON Brazil. Furthermore, I made a new friend in Brazil through my blog (you know who you are) who was gracious enough to assist me with research on this Carnival in Rio poster. You can imagine how thrilled I was to be gathering so much inspiration from Brazil with this major poster project looming overhead.

So my loves, here it is, finally finished!! That means I have only three more projects to go before April 15th lol. I actually had such a blast painting this 18 X 24 tribute to Carnival in Rio. Without a doubt, I have added this extraordinary celebration to my bucket list. Hope you're having a great start to your week. Almost time for my big reveal Wednesday, can't wait!!

Beijo darlings,

He Said, She Said...

Happy Friday Loves,

It feels so amazing to finally be back on my blog. I had no idea fourth semester would be so incredibly demanding. The great news is that I only have two more weeks left of insanity. Absolutely every project is due by April 15th in order to be chosen and/or rejected for the show. The next day I fly out to Los Angeles to forget (only momentarily) about my impending graduation. Unfortunately, I still have to keep you all hanging a few days more with regards to the good news. But I promise to splurge all the details when I do. As for today's post, I find the illustrations to be downright hysterical. Somehow the models posed in such a way that a story line of 'he said, she said' just jumped from the page. Entirely fitting for the chaos of my life these days. Anyways, I wish you well and can't wait to catch up on my favorite blogs.

All my love,
Meag xx

P.S. Thank-you BIG time to all the new followers, you're amazing, and I'm forever grateful for your support.
